Our story began in 1938 when Sir Thomas Duncan bought ‘Whaka’, the land where Rathmoy sits, as a wedding present for his daughter Jeannie.
Sir Thomas Duncan’s great-grandson, Mark Grace, is now the custodian of the property, having grown up with a deep love for the land and all the life it supports. After travelling overseas, it became even more evident to Mark just how special Rathmoy truly was. He made the decision to share the property with the rest of the world and the Lodge by the river was constructed soon after. The lodge was an old farmhouse situated at Tekumu, another property farmed by the Grace family.
It travelled sixty kilometres to be located where it sits now and it was completely refurbished to become the spacious and modern place that is today.A few short years later, Andrea, originally from Argentina, visited Rathmoy as part of a television travel show. She and Mark are now married with three children and living in another property on the farm.
Mark and Andrea are honoured to offer guests the opportunity to experience the secluded country estate and its breathtaking surrounds. Their hope is for you to feel at home and fully experience all that Rathmoy has to offer; finding a place to connect, relax, celebrate and enjoy this magical part of the world.
